Designed to be used with a companion set of posters and characters, these practical guides provide a quick and easy way to introduce nursery rhymes into storytimes. Each book contains six chapters, each devoted to a single rhyme, giving its history and variants; a song; early-literacy activities; and patterns for characters that can be reproduced, colored, and sent home to parents and caregivers. The rationale for using nursery rhymes is well documented, and the bibliography and resources are recent. While the author focuses on six rhymes, she provides models for presenting other favorites, as Betsy Diamant-Cohen has done in her Mother Goose on the Loose (Neal-Schuman, 2006). These presentations are based solidly on early-literacy research. Since the introduction, bibliographies, and resources are identical in each book, librarians might consider purchasing only one if budgets are tight.—Mary Jean Smith, Southside Elementary School, Lebanon, TN
