Ruth Asawa (1926-2013) was a Bay-Area avant-garde sculptor and installation artist whose wire-patterned suspension sculptures seem to defy gravity. She hailed from the Black Mountain School, studying under Joseph Albers and Buckminster Fuller, and went on to become a powerful teacher and advocate, starting an art program in over 50 schools. Christie's was the sole executor of the Ruth Asawa Estate until 2017, when it was acquired by David Zwirner. A scarce copy.
