From the award-winning author, storyteller, ghost hunter, and paranormal investigator Tally Johnson comes a fantastic new short story collection of Southern humor, horror, Southern Gothic style, and stories all told in the inimitable style of a true son of the South. Creek Walking is a Southern Literature love letter to Pat Conroy, Flannery O'Conner, Thomas Wolfe, William Faulkner and Tennessee Williams. Johnson's words dance like sunshine off the crystal clear waters of a Carolina creek and burn like cheap moonshine out back of the barn at Granddaddy's house. This collection of Southern Gothic fiction is a must-read for anyone who's ever driven a tractor down a highway, eaten watermelon with a pocketknife, gone fishing and eaten their catch for dinner, or sat around a campfire picking songs and telling stories with nothing but the crickets and the crackling of the pine kindling for background noise. Ranging from humor to Southern Gothic horror to philosophical contemplation, Creek Walking is a welcome addition to the storytelling tradition of the South.

Tally Johnson has been fascinated by the rich ghostlore of his native South Carolina for almost thirty years. Born in Lyman into a family of readers, his interest in ghost stories was first piqued by a presentation by author and storyteller Nancy Roberts given to his fifth-grade class at Lyman Elementary. As he got older, he visited many reputedly haunted sites throughout the Carolinas and Georgia. He had enough encounters with various manifestations to convince him that ghosts do exist. He has a library of over two hundred books of ghost stories, and he noticed that the ghostlore of inland South Carolina had been neglected for too long. Mr. Johnson is a graduate of Spartanburg Methodist College and Wofford College with degrees in history. Following work toward his MA in history at Winthrop University, which he just missed completing before real life intervened, he became the local history coordinator at the Chester County Library. After repeated complaints about poor writing and a lack of local lore in the books of ghost lore that he bought, his friends challenged him to write a book that would meet his standards. Ghosts of the South Carolina Upcountry, his first book for The History Press, was the result. Ghosts of the South Carolina Midlands soon followed, due to several reader requests. Ghosts of the Pee Dee followed and completed his coverage of inland South Carolina ghostlore. Mr. Johnson currently serves as Special Services Manager for the Chester County Library and has been active in many community groups, including Chester County First Steps, the Chester County Arts Council, the School Improvement Council for the Chester Park School of the Arts and the Chester Little Theater among others. He is on the Roster of Approved Artists as an author, as well as the South Carolina School Librarians’ list of storytellers. He is a former member of the South Carolina Archival Association; Palmetto Archives, Libraries, and Museums Council on Preservation (PALMCOP); Phi Alpha Theta (the graduate history honor society); and the South Carolina Storytellers Association. He enjoys spending time with his family and friends, hiking, visiting historic sites, and reading.
