Eliza is a fiercely patriotic planter’s daughter at Coleriver Plantation outside Charles Town, South Carolina. As British and American troops fight, marauding banditti –brigands who use the war as an excuse to plunder and steal – threaten Eliza at every turn. Attacked, manhandled, her property taken: Eliza must persevere! Anfy is a woman of the African Wolof people enslaved at Coleriver. She fears for her babies’ lives and her own. She must escape the death that lurks constantly. But how? Betsy is a well-to-do young loyalist woman living in British-occupied Savannah when the city comes under siege. American and French forces close in on the beleaguered town and Betsy must endure a tremendous bombardment while frantically worrying about the man she loves as he faces the enemy. Peggy is a rough-hewn farm wife in the backcountry of frontier Georgia. Her husband, Nate, is away with the Patriot militia. She must manage the farm, raise the children, fend off Indians and deal with Loyalist Militias intent on keeping Georgia a Crown Colony.
