This book is a collection of short stories by Soviet Russian authors. All the stories apply, in one way or another to young people to those standing on the threshold of life which is both hard and happy, to those who watch the sun awakening. The heroes in this collection are both children and adults. Writers of different generations and various styles wrote these stories about them. But all these writers were guided by their love for people, by their concern for the future of the world. And they all assert that Man is the most precious thing on Earth. Some authors, looking back at those difficult years of the twenties try to reproduce the country's revolutionary path. Others show the intensive construction of the 30s, the years of the first five-year plans. War is the theme of writers who fought against the Nazi invaders and liberated Europe from the brown scourge. Some of them left the classroom to go and fight at the front. They only became writers after the war. The collection also includes short stories by younger writers, who may not have fought in the war but certainly remember those grim years and the lost loved ones. So it follows that all the contributors to this book have had experience of life and their characters moulded by joys and hardships. They know where the sun awakens. Contents in 18 Stories: The Hot Stone, A Drawing of Lenin, The Foal, Around the World, Nerle, The First Cadet, Fierce Fine World, The Game of Beauty, March-April, The Russian Character, Winter Oak, In the Heart of Russia, The Horse with the Pink Mane, How Are You, French Lesson, Flowers for Olya, The Old House, and Where the Sun Wakes Up.
