The Bear River Massacre, also called the Battle of Bear River and the Massacre at Boa Ogoi, took place on January 29, 1863, between the → United States Army and the → Shoshone Indians at the confluence of the → Bear River and Beaver Creek (now Battle Creek) in what was then southeastern → Washington Territory. The site is located near the present-day city of Preston in Franklin County, Idaho. The detachment of the U.S. Army was led by Col. → Patrick Edward Connor as a part of the Bear River Expedition against Shoshone Chief → Bear Hunter.
