About this Item
A lovely illustrated edition of Mary Ann Evans's debut novel first published in 1859 with colour plates by George Browne. Illustrated edition of Adam Bede by Mary Ann Evans in the original publisher's cloth binding.Published under the pseudonym George Eliot. Adam Bede was Evans's first novel. It is a prime example of nineteenth century English literature. With illustrations throughout the text and sixteen colour plates by Gordon Browne.Prior owner's book plates to the pastedowns and prior owner's ink inscription to the first free endpaper from 1970. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, very smart. There is some minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities, resulting in some slight wear to the cloth in these areas. Prior owner's book plates to the pastedowns and prior owner's ink inscription to the first free endpaper from 1970. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean with the occasional spot. Very Good. Seller Inventory # 838W28
