About this Item

Firts editon. Hardcover in maroon cloth lettered in gilt. INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR ON THE FRONT FREE ENDPAPER: " To my good friends/ John and Grace ____/ of Weigand Place/ T. Gilbert Pearson/ New Yoirk City March 7, 1937". xiv+459 pp. with index. Illustrated with photographic plates. Autobiography of noted conservationist, ornithologist and founder of hte National Association of Audubon Societies (later The National Audubon Society) , T. Gilbert Pearson (1873-1943). Very good, some offsetting to the title page and some foxing to the plates. Laid in is a single sheet pencil handwritten note dated Nove. 1936 on St. Luke's Hospital (NYC) Private Pavillion notepaper to the "John" to whom the inscription is made; Gilbert was obviously ill at the time and the writing obviously shows this being rather scrawly and misaligned.
