[African American Film] All-Black Cast Prison Bait featuring the Harlem Tuff Kids Original Lobby Card. Toddy Pictures, Co, 1944. Measures 11" x 14". Vibrant blue color. The film was initially released as Reform School in 1939. Louise Beavers plays Mother Barton, a probation officer that becomes superintendent of school and comes to defense of inmate Freddie and his friends, played by the Harlem Tuff Kids, after the experience constant harassment. This film debuted the Harlem Tuff Kids, who only appeared in their last film in 1942, titled Take My Life. The Academy Museum notes that "the film s director, Leo Popkin, is one of the three co-founders of the Million Dollar Productions company that produced and distributed films for Black audiences". The lobby card captures the Harelm Tuff Kids in various "shocked" expressions. They all sport matching uniforms consisting of jeans and v-neck shirts. The bottom margin relays the title in bold lettering: "Louise Beavers in Prison Bait 'Reform School' With Harlem's Tuff Kids Monte Hawley. All Star Colored Cast". An important lobby card documenting an early instance of an all-Black cast. In very good condition. Seller Inventory # 19784
