A handsome copy hard bound in green cloth covers with gilt county seal and title letters on front cover. 336 numbered pages. Top page ends finished and gilt. SIgned copy on front end paper. Bookplate inside front cover with previous owner's name; James Tott. Harmer. Included is signed letter from Levi Gould to Mr. Harmer saying editions of "Ancient Middlesex" are all sold. Somehow Mr. Harmer got one and this is it.Other page ends are a uncut. Profusely illustrated by photos. A notable feature of this volume is the collection of portraits of county officials, many of which date back to colonial and revolutionary times. Contains 125 full page portraits. Contains score of other group portraits. Contains hundreds of signatures of famous Middlesex County men taken from original official documents. Contains a collection of county and city seals. Glued brown envelope on inside of back cover with envelope dated Sept. 1, 1905 to Mr. Harmer regarding unavailability of volume from Levi S. Gould. Contains newspaper review of the book dated August 11, 1905 from the Somerville Journal. Quite a book. Very historic. SPine ends and corners vave varying wear, mostly light.
