Synopsis: It seems appropriate in Idaho's Centennial year that tribute be paid to the pioneers who helped build this part of the West into the strong and livable state that it is today. Andy Little was a leader among those people. A Scottish youth, Andy arrived in Caldwell in 1895 to begin a career as an outstanding sheepman. Through years of hard work he developed the largest single sheep operation in Idaho, and quite possibly in the nation. For most of his life he and his family made their home in Emmett. For several years he owned about 200,000 sheep ranging over 7,500 square miles from the Boise Valley's southern border north to the Salmon River. At his peak in 1929 his sheep bands produced approximately one million pounds of wool. Spanning the years form 1895 until his death in 1941, this book details the drama of an entire era of Idaho's sheep industry, with hundreds of memorable stories and anecdotes. Written by native Idahoan Louise Shadduck, it brings to life a fascinating story of a western state which drew many Scots, Basques, Kentuckians, Tennesseans and others to an area where they made their dreams come true.
