Published on the occasion of an exhibition, _Fertile Ground_, at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia. The show featured the work of Alison Saar (b. 1956), an African-American artist. Alison's art often centers upon the African diaspora and black female identity. Art has been central to Alison's life since childhood as her mother is Betye Saar (b. 1926), an artist associated with the Black Arts Movement, and her father, Richard Saar (1924-2004), was a ceramicist and art conservator. With the environment she grew up in, Alison was introduced to the arts of other cultures which she has drawn upon in her work. For example, many of Alison's artworks are inspired by African, Caribbean, and Latin-American folk art. _Fertile Ground_ addresses the history of the South in the United States. This show was part of the _Art at the Edge_ series. Text by Susan Krane. Heavy and oversized items may require additional shipping. Seller Inventory # 01330
