About this Item

Original blue cloth covers with still bright gold lettering on the front cover along with the embossed profile of a sailing ship. The spine is now somewhat discolored so the lettering is less bright and the embossed profile of a seabird is no longer apparent. 253 numbered pages with an additional 16 unnumbered pages of photo illustrations. The date of publication does not appear on the title page, only on the copyright page. On the front pastedown and flyleaf is a circular stamp with the date 1933 in the center and printing which reads "A Century of Progress" "Byrd's South Pole Ship." On the second front flyleaf is a small newspaper photo of George Tenant, cook and steward with the Byrd expedition, along with an ink inscription which reads: "To Vida Seaman with regards from G.W. Tenant Chief Cook and Steward.". Bookseller Inventory # 001508
