Bound set of weekly publications with contemporary coverage of the second Boer War. According to Black & White's own advertisement: Every Friday, price sixpence and containing the 'Most Unique Photos and Sketches of the War up to Date.' Another one states that it has fifteen correspondents in the field. The bottle green cloth boards and spine are appealingly designed with blind floral decorative effects; broken up by dominant gilt (gold) titles. Some bending at the corners, fraying in places (inc. head and tail of the spine); plus some marking on the lower board. Reasonably tight binding. Lemon yellow endpapers. Condition (internal): mild to moderate tanning with occasional spotting throughout. As is often the case with older books, this is much more apparent on the book's preliminary and final pages. The book is filled with b/w photographs, sketches, diagrams etc - more images (and information) on request. The chronological arrangement/description of these weekly publications is perhaps retrospectively slightly confusing and breaks down as follows. The spine indicates: Vol 1. 2 (main image). Volume I consists of news sheets 1-12. All of these are subtitled under the heading: 'Transvaal Special.' (No. 9 is the first news sheet to be clearly dated: Saturday 9, 1899). Volume II covers numbers 13-25 (the last one being dated: March 31, 1900). No. 13 of Vol II is the last of the so-called Transvaal Specials. The word BUDGET is not used for the first three news sheets. Pagination relates to each individual publication/8vo (imperial octavo). 1900 is the presumed, not stated, date of publication.
