About this Item
Near Fine book in VG- dust jacket. Dust jacket has shallow chipping at head and foot of spine and lower corner of front cover, now protected by fresh mylar sleeve. Book is inscribed on the half title page: "Say Loren: Read this "muy Pronto" -- it your etiquette Lessan on Bull Fite Conduct -- U must kno rules & regulations." (sic) This is followed by illegible initials. Sophia Loren was in Madrid in 1956 for the filming of her movie Pride and the Passion, which had some bullfighting scenes, so this book may have been a gift to her. I would like to believe that it was. . Tom Lea was both an artist and a writer, a son of El Paso, in the great state of Texas. He both wrote and wonderfully illustrated this classic bull-fighting novel, which some have said rivals Hemingway's Death in the Afternoon. This novel is the basis of the 1951 film of the same name, starring Mel Ferrer and Anthony Quinn. Directed and produced by Robert Rossen for Columbia Pictures. A solid and thought-provoking copy of an early printing. . 8vo 8" - 9" tall. 270 pages. J2. Seller Inventory # 32891
