First published in 1805.Translation and adaptation of German author and reformer Johann Zschokke's sensational and extravagant romance 'Abällino, der grosse Bandit', first published in 1793.From the library of lecturer and historian Richard Luckett, with his bookplate to front pastedown.Matthew Gregory Lewis was an English novelist and dramatist known for his works of 'Gothic horror.' His most famous work is 'The Monk,' which gained him the nickname of "Monk". Rebound in half calf binding with original leather spine restored, marbled boards. Externally very smart with light marks to boards and spine. Internally, firmly bound. Light spotting to fore edge affecting only first and last few leaves, pages otherwise generally bright and clean.
