Synopsis: This book consists of a long introductory essay on the arrest, detention and finally, the release of Young Turks and their henchmen accused of committing war crimes against Armenians and Assyrians during World War I. These were the first international efforts to bring war criminals to trial, even before the Nuremberg trials of 1914-49. Although the men were taken to Malta for pre-trial arrangements, the trials themselves never materialised because of the lack of legal mechanisms in place, difficulties in securing evidence on the ground, and political opposition from various quarters.
The second part of this work consists of a 242 page appendix, which includes case-files against the accused in United Kingdom National Archives at Kew.
