This work by Erasmus (1460-1536) on manners for children, was addressed to 11-year old Henry of Burgundy, son of Adolph, Prince of Veere. It instructs him in simple Latin on how a boy should conduct himself in the company of adults. It became very popular, with dozens of editions printed within 10 years. First printed by Froben in 1530, there are numerous other 1530 printings, but all are extremely rare today. VD16 E2191. Sm. 8vo. ff.(16). Woodcut device on title. One historiated woodcut capital. Later (19th century?) vellum spine over black speckled boards. Occasional neat underlining in red with old marginalia in a small, neat hand. Text lightly and evenly browned. Bookseller Inventory #
