Cabinet photograph on board (6 3/8 x 4 1/4 inch) with title handwritten on the backside. Image of the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel with the Place du Carrousel in the background. The arch was built in 1806 to commemorate Napoleon's victories in Europe and was modeled on the Arch of Constantine. On top of the 75 foot monument Napoleon placed the horses from Saint Mark's Cathedral in Venice captured in 1798, but returned after Napoleon's defeat in 1815 at Waterloo. They were replaced by 'Peace' riding in a chariot flanked by horses to honor the 'Restoration of the Bourbons'. Very good clean copy. Seller Inventory # 12128
