This landmark publication is the first comprehensive dictionary of the Anmatyerr language, built from over a decade of close collaboration between Anmatyerr and linguists. Situated in Central Australia is the home of Anmatyerr, a cultural and language-based group of Indigenous Australians. For Anmatyerr people, their language is much more than means of communication; it links them to family, their country, and ancestral stories.
About the Author:
Jenny Green is a linguist and artist. She has worked extensively with Aboriginal people in the Alice Springs region and in Central Australian bush communities for more than 25 years, researching languages, ethnography and cultural history, and has considerable knowledge of the Alyawarr, Anmatyerr and Arrernte languages. She has taught language, literacy, and art, and has written and contributed to a number of books and articles on Aboriginal art and language. Anmatyerr language speakers reside in Central Australia north of Alice Springs. They are neighbored by Warlpiri, Alyawarr, Kaytetye, and Arrernte languages. Without the collaboration of native speakers from Mt. Allan, Pine Hill, Laramba, Stirling, Desert bore, Alice Springs, Derwent bore, and Utopia, the dictionary would not have been possible.
