About this Item
This is an uncommon chapbook published in the mid 19th Century featuring two poems. The first concerns a monkey kept as a pet by Farmer Brown and his activities around the farm. The second poem is a fable concerning a butterfly that wished to get out and explore the world, against his parent's advice, but ended up being caught and died. Generally in good condition, internally soiled (see photos) with a contemporary hand coloured title page which is reproduced, in monochrome, on the top wrap. 12pp with 5 woodcuts and one woodcut tailpiece. The Young Butterfly is unillustrated. Pink paper wraps 17.7 X 10.4cm. Paper wraps chipped with a 1.5cm portion missing from top inner hinge. Lower corner of wrap missing and associated curling of subsequent pages without loss. Rear wraps marked and missing portions of three of its corners. Uncommon - one copy, only, cited in COPAC and another edition referenced in the Osborne collection. Not found in Muir. Seller Inventory # 001155
