First edition. Octavo in royal blue cloth spectacularly decorated in gilt, white and gray. Top edge gilt, other edges uncut. 133 pp. with four full page color plates by Sigismond Ivanowski. Seperately published exerpt of the famed chariot race portion of Wallace's "Ben Hur". This volume was issued to coincide with the 1907 15-minute silent film short of that portion of the novel. It was one of the first film appearances of William S. Hart, who had created the role of Messala on the stage in 1899. A fine, tight, fresh example . In the original dust jacket that reproduces the cover illustration in bold blue and white. ; jacket with chip to the foot of the spoine and wear at the head, some light staining to the white spine strip and modest edgewear and rubbing.
