Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. A large, heavy book, cloth bound, hardback book, with beautiful gilt decoration, gilt titles on the spine. No dust jacket. This wonderful book is in reasonably good condition for its age, normal wear. marks and tear apply consistent with use and age. Corners of the boards are worn and bumped. The odd, stain and marks, but overall all 454 pages plus index pages are in good, clean, readable order. Please note for overseas buyers as this book is large and heavy postage/shipping may increase from listed price depending on final destination. Nameplate with family crest is attached to inside front board. Small wear to inside front board. All pages gilt edge. This wonderful book was not intended for publication originally. It was undertaken during the author's youth, partly as a historic exercise, and partly as a simple and continuous narrative of the principal events of English History, with a view to pictorial illustration. The work, as it proceeded, but more particularly when it had reached the dimensions of a complete volume, attracted interest and attention, and was honoured with approval in circles far beyond the author's own limited sphere and aspirations; and from none did it receive more indulgent commendation than from his late Royal Highness, the lamented Prince Consort. The colour illustration inside are quite magnificent. Seller Inventory # 1752
