[African-American] [Film & Entertainment] Steven Spielberg's film adaptation of Alice Walker's The Color Purple, tells the story of a young African American girl named Celie Harris and the brutal experiences she endured including domestic violence, incest, child sexual abuse, poverty, racism, and sexism. Archive of 9 silver gelatin press release photographs. Warner Brothers, 1985.Bblack and white. Each photo measures 8" x 10" and contain stills from the film's production as well as from the film itself, including one of a then-unknown Whoopi Goldberg conferring with a young Spielberg. Short captions beneath the photographs offer further context, teasing plot points from the film that starred Danny Glover, Oprah Winfrey, and Rae Dawn Chong. A film still shows Goldberg as Cecile reading letters from her sister for the first time when they are returned to her by Shug Avery, played by Margaret Avery, the blues singer who "helps her realize her own strength and beauty". Another photograph shows Oprah Winfrey as Sofia, leaning against a door frame with an austere expression. Two photos feature Danny Glover as Albert, and another photo features Adolph Caesar as Old Mister Johnson. Both of these men play antagonists in the film, as they're portrayed mistreating family members and the women in their lives. The film was criticized for downplaying the novel s for sentimentalizing life in the Deep South. However, the film was a success for it's powerful truth and went on to be one of the most successful films of 1985. In overall very good condition with very minor edge wear. Seller Inventory # 20828
