This is the first publication, from the Bordeaux Manuscript of 1681, with an English translation from the old French by Stephanie & Denis Clark, Edited with an introduction and notes by Ashley Gibson. Jean de Lacombe traveled through Ceylon, Java, Sumatra, Ternat, Nambonne, Gounongapy, Siam, Moluccas, China in the seventeenth century. The plates are from contemporary engravings of some of the principal places visited reproduced from Schultzen's Ost-indische Reyse, Amsterdam, 1676. The Maps used as end-papers are from a contemporary Mercator Atlas. The Edition is limited to 300 copies in Perpetua Type on Arnold's hand-made paper (No 183). Seller Inventory # 10514

Double page plates, double page facsimile from original manuscript. 209, [1] pp. Bookplate of Herbert Eberhard Hering, a noted German-Brazilian bibliophile and book collector, appears on the inside front paste down. The black spine has a little nicking to the top and tail of the spine. Overall in good, clean condition though. Internally clean with a few foxing spots only.
