About this Item

A nice copy of the first edition, first printing ("First Edition" stated and "F-E" code to copyright page) of the legendary hunter and writer's first book. A very rare book in any condition and any printing, even the reprint editions. Extremely rare in the true first edition, first printing with the complete dust jacket. Copies of this book are virtually impossible to find, with some followers of O'Connor searching for years for this title and not finding it. The book has brown cloth boards with orange lettering to spine and front board. (The reprint issued by Grosset & Dunlap has orange cloth boards and black lettering). Jack (John Woolf) O'Connor is considered one of the most beloved outdoor writers ever, although he started his careeer teaching English at the University of Arizona, later becoming the school's first journalism professor. As his career progressed he became the firearms/shooting editor for "Outdoor Life" magazine, a position he held for over 30 years. O'Connor hunted throughout the world and loved the outdoors and writing about hunting, shooting, and the natural history of big game animals. Throughout his career he introduced millions of readers to hunting and firearms and wrote over twenty non-fiction books on hunting and shooting. The novel "Conquest" was his first book written eight years before he published his only other novel, "Boom Town". Now back to the book: Text is solid, clean, and tight. The book appears unread or barely so. Orange lettering to front board and spine is bright and unflaked. No marks or highlights in text. Text block edges a bit dusty, o/w Fine.
