A smart nine volume set of editions from the Cornhill Magazine, dated January 1860 to July 1864. Nine volumes. Various editions from The Cornhill Magazine, a Victorian publication and literary journal named after the street address of the founding publisher at Smith, Elder & Co. Under the editorship of William Makepeace Thackeray, the circulation peaked in the 1860s. This set includes: Volume one - January to June, 1860. Illustrated with twelve plates, one of which is folding, and many in-text images. Volume two - July to December, 1860. Illustrated with twelve plates, and many in-text images. Volume three - January to June, 1861. Illustrated with twelve plates, and many in-text images. Volume four - July to December, 1861. Illustrated with twelve plates, and many in-text images. Volume five - January to June, 1862. Illustrated with twelve plates, and many in-text images. Volume six - July to December, 1862. Illustrated with twenty-four plates, and many in-text images. Volume seven - January to June, 1863. Illustrated with twenty-one plates, and many in-text images. Volume eight - July to December, 1863. Illustrated with fourteen plates, and many in-text images. Volume nine - January to June, 1864. Illustrated with twelve plates, and many in-text images. Collated complete. In the original half crushed morocco with brown cloth boards. Externally, sound with rubbing and light wear resulting in minor loss to the extremities. Further loss to the spine of volume eight. Fading to the spine and the odd mark to the board. Joints starting but firm to most volumes. Front hinges tender but firm. Internally, firmly bound. One plate has come loose to volume seven. Pages are very bright with light spotting predominantly to the endpapers. The odd pencil annotation. Pencil inscription to the front endpapers. Tears to pages 581 to 583 of volume one resulting in loss to the plate. Good. Seller Inventory # 868T77
