About this Item

First American edition. 24mo. (3 1/2" x 5 1/2") in original paper covered boards over red leather spine lettered in gilt. Frontipiece engraving ; 108 pp. with index. A tight, very good example, even soling to the boards and some light creasing to the spine strip. Previous owner's signature top edge of the title page. Fascinating collection comined to ".convey to the reader the devivation of many old and curious well as the origin of names given to most of the principal streets in London." This, the first American edition, differs and is smaller than the British edition, some material ".being quite uninteresting." being left out and ".a little has been added, such as the boxing match, duels, &c.".
