A rather scarce edition of author's adventure story, set in the 'Colorado Desert' of present-day Southern California's Imperial Valley. With 21 b&w illustrations by Hume Nisbet and W. Buckley, 3 of which inserted as plates; as well as one map. Undated copy, but likely published c.1893-1894. --- In full red cloth-covered boards with lettering and elaborate illustrations on cover and spine in gilt, white, black, yellow, brown and orange. Lacks a dust jacket. --- Interior is firm and collated to confirm all pages present. Leaves lack markings or significant soiling. Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Hume Nisbet and W. buckley (illustrator). Blue illustrated cloth, some rubbing on the hinges and the top and base of the slightly sun faded spine, top corners heavily damp discoloured, wear on the top couple of inches of the outer edges, name of previous owner neatly written inside, browning on end papers, not dated but probably late nineteenth century.
