About this Item
The second edition of Canto's I and II of Lord Byron's epic poem, Don Juan, bound in the publisher's original boards. The second edition. Published a year after the first edition, holding all the same issue points as the first, as stated in F. L. Randolph's 'Studies for a Byron Bibliography'. Bound in the publisher's original boards. 'Don Juan' is Lord Byron's satirical epic poem, an important feat of Romantic poetry. Byron portrays Don Juan as a man easily seduced by women, rather than a womaniser. The character, but not the plot, is taken from the legendary Spanish libertine figure. Byron's poem is written in ottava rima across sixteen cantos. Upon the publication of the first cantos in 1819 the poem was criticized as immoral. With a bookseller label of J. Andrews to the front paste down, with an ink inscription to the front endpaper. Bound in the publisher's original boards, with spine reinforced and a library blind stamp to the front board. Bookseller label to front paste down and ink inscription to front endpaper. Hinges are a touch strained, but holding firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with the odd light mark or spot. Blind stamp of Nottingham Library to title page. Very Good.
