Limited Edition. With a beautifully printed frontispiece portrait of the author, printed from a halftone and a woodcut over hand painted background. This is #144 of 200 copies printed on Zerkall Book cream vellum. Type is Garamond, set by Ray DesChamps at Classic Compositions in Billerica, MA. Signed by Jeffrey Weinberg, editor and publisher and by Elias Roustom, artist and printer, on the colophon page. Covers are clean, binding is solid, interior is unmarked. Un-paginated. *** Written by the Beat jazz poet while behind bars at the Bordentown Reformatory, while serving a sentence for armed robbery. This book-length poem was written in 1956 when the author was 22 years old. It was first published in the prison's print shop but the author destroyed all but one of the copies. Ray Bremser's epic poem, The Dying of Children, was written in 1957 while Bremser was in prison at the age of 26. Recently discovered, this Beat masterpiece was thought to be lost forever until a copy of the poem printed in the prison printshop over 40 years ago was recently discovered. Printed letterpress by hand on deluxe paper stock and hand-sewn into wrappers, this beautiful book is a numbered limited edition signed by the printer and the editor, Jeffrey Weinberg.
