About this title

Synopsis:

"EARLY STAGE PROFESSIONAL: starting off right" is for all College and University graduates who want to succeed in their first, second and third jobs.
All graduates are bright and ambitious. Few are effective from the start. This book details the skills, behaviors and actions that professionals who want to get ahead need to deploy throughout their career, from Job No.1 through to Leader.

Early Stage Professional provides a guide for College Graduates from Day 1 (when to get into the office, how to take vacation, have effective one-to-ones with their manager) through to Year 1 and even Year 5. In addition to getting the basics right this guide shows you the way when dealing with more difficult topics such as your manager, workplace conflict, office politics, how to get a promotion and everything else you need to know.

This is a battlefield- (ok workplace-) tested guide to being successful as an Early Stage Professional. This is not a "if you do this you will be Mark Zuckerberg" work of fiction (there's enough of that out there). Instead this is a down-to-earth and accessible guide for everyone who wants to succeed in their first five years and ensure that they can meet their personal goals over their career.

Move over Helicopter Parents, or maybe "Buy this for your ambitious graduate, Helicopter Parents"! This is a truly invaluable guide for "Professionals in the Making" and compared to the $100,000+ cost of college education, a bargain.
Go on, give the book a try and start being effective in the workplace!

About the Author:

Fergus Mellon is an experienced manager and Digital Media executive who has worked in a variety of businesses in the United States and Europe.

He started the Early Stage Professional project, initally as he wanted to help members of his team be successful at work. Based on the success of this, he then wrote Early Stage Professional: starting off right, set up the website EarlyStageProfessional.com, speaks at Colleges and runs training programs. All with the goal of helping Early Stage Professionals be effective in the workplace.

Why listen to Fergus? Because he has helped others succeed!

See these sample reviews from people he has worked with and get a flavor of his management and coaching style:

"It is completely idealistic and often rare a senior manager becomes a mentor and coach for a team who report into them - however this is exactly the exchange Fergus created. Fergus motivated and led his team with enthusiasm, positivity, and down to Earth humor, that created a hard working and excited creative team. Always extremely approachable and willing to help, Fergus created strong bonds between his reports and departments within the entire office. His presence and humor is missed, however Fergus would be an incredible asset to managing any team!"
Team Member, Early Stage Professional-level

"Fergus is the type of boss that any employee would be extremely lucky to have. He was supportive, encouraging, knowledgable, understood the bigger picture, and was appreciative of his team. He has a deep knowledge and understanding of media, business infrastructure, and management and encourages those that work for him to reach their potential. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to have worked for him."
Direct Report, Early Stage Professional-level
