Quarto. xvii, 334 pages, 96 plates. Includes bibliography references (p. 310-311), One of the best explanations of the symbols of royalty. The author notes that "the investiture with the sword signified that the King had received total authority from God." The many photographs of the various crowns with the textual meaning makes this one of the best volumes for an understanding of the meaning within the panoply of items showing kingly authority. Bound in full maroon cloth, spine lettering gilt, last four pages with very small closed edge tears(same spot on each page). A very good copy. Seller Inventory # 028159
