About this Item
Ellis' illustrated short stories on domesticity, complete in three volumes. Includes illustrated title pages in each volume, and a frontis in volumes I and II. With nine plates in both volumes I and II, and eight plates in volume III. Sarah Stickney Ellis (1799 1872) was a Quaker turned Congregationalist who was the author of numerous books, mostly written about women's role(s) in society. Particularly well-known are The Wives of England, The Women of England, The Mothers of England, and The Daughters of England, also her more directly educational works such as Rawdon House and Education of the Heart: Women's Best Work. In half leather binding with gilt lettering and decoration, and marbled paper-covered boards. There is only slight wear to the extremities, with just slight bumping and rubbing. The front inner hinge of volume III is very slightly strained, but still good and firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally clean with slight browning to the page edges and scattered foxing to the plates. Very Good Indeed. Seller Inventory # SET1-C-4
