Oblong folio. 14 x 11 in. With 310 tipped-in original photos sized from 2 x 2.75 in. up to 4 x 5 in., nearly all printed on glossy photo stock (some over-exposed, and some sepia-tinted). Contemporary turned-in post binder, dark brown cloth, gilt lettering on front cover (minor wear & bumping to corners, some shelfwear), still an excellent album. This outstanding photo album graphically portrays the aircraft, facilities, personnel, destroyed Japanese aircraft, bombed out buildings, and city street scenes in the Philippines at the end of World War II as viewed by a serviceman of the Air Transport Command, Pacific Division, Central Pacific Wing. The Air Transport Command operated as a massive ferrying and courier service across the Pacific during World War II ferrying bombers and fighter planes from US Factories to Pacific Theatre battlefields, transporting vital materials and personnel, as well as providing combat lifts for Airborne and Parachute infantry units. This album shows the DC-3 transport aircraft, Hickam Field, Kwajalein Airfield in the Marshall Islands, the first DC-4 operated by the Philippine Airlines in 1946, weather stations, aerial views of airfields, Clark Field Air Baase, B-29 Bombers, fields of P-51 Mustang fighter planes, and even Nichols Field, Philippines south of Manila. There are photos of battle damaged aircraft, some partially buried in beach sand, an entire sequence of an erupting Philippine volcano, numerous street scenes of bombed out buildings, scenes showing markets, Philippine residents, and advertising billboards, along with harbor scenes showing Naval aircraft, and reviving cargo ship traffic.
