This volume is the first part of the text introduction to the elephant folio work entitled 'Fauna Antiqua Sivalensis.' Inscribed on the front green wrapper "To William Lonsdale Esq., from the authors with H.F.'s best wishes. William Lonsdale was an English geologist and palaeontologist, who won the Wollaston medal in 1846 for his research on the various kinds of fossil corals (from Wiki). Old oval ink stamp from the Geological Society of London on the front wrapper and first text page; bookplate of the Geological Society library regulations on the front endpaper.
