*** BOOK in fairly good condition. This is the Author's Illustrated Edition, and unlike many of the very early editions, does not include "The Blockade Runners". This was an inexpensive edition, nevertheless, the text block is clean and bright and the engravings are crisp. Publication date is not stated. Spine has title in red in black panel; upper board decorated artwork in red, black and blue; rear board has an advert for Pears' Soap. Dedication in ink on front free endpaper, with pencil explanation of who the donor was. Endpapers are browned. 208 pages with 9 engravings, as called for. There is a list of Verne's books and their prices, and from this a publication date of 1887 is probable. This particular book is the scarce Author's Illustrated Edition *** CONTENTS: This adventure story is set in 1867 on the SS Great Eastern, and was first published in 1871. There is lots of technical detail, but the melodramatic story is about a woman and her husband who are passengers on a voyage from Liverpool to New York.
