About this Item

Black cloth with gilt titling and swords on the front cover. No jacket. 458 pages including index. With black and white photos throughout. A history of the 7th US Cavalry, from its early organization and activity in the Indian Wars from 1866-1891 (including an account of the Battle of Little Bighorn by Lieutenant Edward S. Godfrey) through its activities in Mexico, Cuba and elsewhere and its eventual decline in use due to vehicles. Of note in this volume are several documents glued to the front and rear inside covers, pertaining to a lieutenant James C. Rhea of the 7th Cavalry regarding his stationing at various posts. These are signed by various commanders and consist of orders of reporting to duty at a post. A typed document in the rear mentions Rhea's role in Cuba in the attempts to arrest a Sergeant Darrell. This is dated 1900. Also glued in is a color illustration depicting the dress of the 7th Cavalry in 1876, as well as a black and white photo depicting maneuvers. In GOOD condition with general fading, minor soiling and some scuffing to the covers and extremities. Interior clean and solid with the page facing the title page bearing faint glue stains.
