About this Item
St Louis: Church of All Worlds, c 1972. A collection of 12 issues of this influential periodical, which served as the organ of the Neo Pagan Church of All Worlds, curated by Ed Fitch, Julie Zell and Tim Zell, who is credited with coining the phrase 'Neo Paganism'. The magazine's inaugural issue was in 1968. Early issues were published as a one page ditto sheet, and eventually it came to be published eight times a year, with each issue coinciding with one of the eight annual pagan festivals, until the magazine went dormant in 1974. Each issue featured articles on a variety of topics including Magic, Neo Pagan Sexual Morality, The Return of Isis, Communal Living, Eleusis, etc. with the occasional science fiction story by Ed Fitch. The magazine was controversial, most notably due to its uncensored Forum section, it but attracted mainstream interest as well, with Robert Heinlein praising the magazine's content. The Green Egg to this day is regarded as "the most significant periodical in the Pagan movement during the 1970s" (Encyclopedia of American Religions). Present here are Vol V Nos 46-51 consecutive, and issues 41, 42, 44, 45, 53 and 54 from Vol VI, published circa 1972-1973. This is a VG set, with several issues folded vertically, short tears and chipping to wrap edges, with the spine heel of Vol V, issue 51 nearly torn away; light soiling to several issues, crimping and wear to wrap edges, with final leaf of one volume coming loose, but a sound VG set of an ephemeral publication, with only two copies from this time period in OCLC.
