Clothbound. 4to. [1], XLVIII pages. 26 cm. First edition. In German, with some Hebrew. Bound in marbled board. Title roughly translates as: "Basic lines of the Mosaic-Talmudic Marriage-Law. " Zecharias Frankel was a "German theologian; born at Prague Sept. 30, 1801; died at Breslau Feb. 13, 1875. Frankel was the founder and the most eminent member of the school of historical Judaism, which advocates freedom of research, while in practical life it upholds the authority of tradition, Frankel was, through his father, a descendant of Vienna exiles of 1670 and of the famous rabbinical Spira family, while on his mother's side he descended from the Fischel family, which has given to the community of Prague a number of distinguished Talmudists. . His outline of rabbinical marriage law, "Grundlinien des Mosaisch-Talmudischen Eherechts" (Breslau, 1860) , was meant to serve as a text-book on that subject. " (from the 1906 Jewish Encyclopedia) . This copy does not contain the oftentimes abridged five page report of the Judisch-theologisches seminar, Breslau. Subjects: Marriage -- Jews. OCLC lists 15 copies worldwide. Covers lightly worn, with bumped edges. Pages aged, lightly soiled throughout, with light but profuse liquid stains on last set of pages. All text legible. Very good condition. (GER-36-31).
