About this title

World War II changed the face of America and permanently affected the lives of all who lived through it. Readjustment after the cessation of hostilities was something for which the country was completely unprepared. The little town of Petaluma, California arose to this challenge in a unique manner - through a football team. Bursting upon the local scene in 1946, the Petaluma Leghorns ascended to the very top of the semi-professional football ranks in the entire State of California. The team was a coalescing force in a town that was losing its identity as "The Egg Basket of the World," and adrift in a post-war world of change. The Leghorns created a surreal aura of invincibility and pride that left its indelible imprint on this small town, forever changing the course of its history. Their story is the substance of dreams.
