Hardcover including good maps and other fold outs, without dust jacket, in good condition for its age. Home repaired spine by Sister Benedicta Ward in her own fashion style. Boards, edges and corners are faded, bumped and rubbed. Page block is rough cut and tanned, as are a few of the pages. Some pages are also lighlty foxed. Pastedowns and endpapers are lighlty marked, with an Ex-Libris label to FEP, and slight hinge break at front board. The pages and text are otherwise clear and unmarked throughout. LW. Bound in the publisher's original cloth, rebacked and with the original spine laid down. Scarce work. Illustrated with three folding maps and three further plates, consisting of a map of Ancient Northumbria, a map of Holy Island, and a Map of the Cathedral Church of Durham, amongst others. The Map of Ancient Northumbria is housed in a pocket to the rear of the work.Collated, complete. A biographical work surrounding the life of St Cuthbert of Lindisfarne, a monk and bishop from Northumbria, known to be something of a recluse. Written by the Rev. Monsignor Charles Eyre, this comprehensive work explores Cuthbert's life as a monk, his time travelling, and the miracles he performed. With a chapter detailing all the different monuments erected in Cuthbert's honour, including Durham Cathedral and Lindisfarne Priory Church. With the bookplate to Ernest Bryan Gipps, a violinist and English teacher from Bexhill-on-Sea. Bound in the publisher's original cloth, rebacked, with the original spine laid down. Externally, sound, with rubbing causing a little loss to board extremities. Slight rubbing to gilt, with the odd mark to boards. Hinges are strained, with cords visible, but holding reasonably firm. Front endpaper is a little tender. Bookplate to front paste down. Internally, generally firmly bound. First few pages, including title page, are a little tender.
