First published in 1940, this edition presumably for the Canadian market: a colophon reveals it was printed and published by Bell Features and Publishers Co., Limited, Toronto, despite the title page indicating Pembertons of Manchester.A splendid archetypal pulp cover illustration, with all the requisite cliches. Previously published in soft covers by Metro Books and originally published in hard covers in the US by Arcadia House in the Mystery House imprint in 1940 - both under the name Stephen Gould. Popular Library 229. The spine is a little rolled with a small crack across the centre. Light creasing around the corners with slight chipping to the surface at the top right corner of the front cover and the bottom left corner of the back cover. Otherwise only some light edge and surface wear to the covers. Browning to the page edges. There is a two inch crease to the top corner of page 11 and small creases and chips to the top corners of a few pages at the front of the book. The pages are browned but otherwise clean and unmarked.
