About this Item

This is a portfolio of humorous prints (13 1/4" x 9 3/4") by the fine French lithographer (and painter, sculptor, printmaker) Daumier (1808-1879). The lithos were reproduced and printed by the Photogravure and Color Co., New York, and published by The Ram Press for Pantheon. The lithos are enfolded in an envelope that is pasted in a hard cover. The cover is blue cloth with gilt titles. The portfolio is accompanied by a booklet listing the items; it has small prints on the front and back covers, neither of which is included in the portfolio. The catalog follows the Catalogue raisonne of Daumier lithographs by N.A. Hazard & Loys Delteil; however, the enclosed lithographs do not correspond to the catalog. There are in fact twenty-five prints (one is a duplicate). In any case, the prints are really great! You could decorate a fabulous library, dining room, or smoking lounge, or, at this prince, your hunting cabin or fishing hideaway with them. The lithographs are printed on fine paper with an ivory tone; the booklet is fine; the portfolio cover is very good with slight rubbing at extremities. Bookseller Inventory # 4CSHD
