Lg. 8vo. xxvi,476pp. Half tan cloth with black lettering on spine over paper-covered boards. 'Die Juden und das Wirtschaftsleben' by German economist and sociologist Werner Sombart (1863-1941), is a pendant to Max Weber's study on the connection between Protestantism and Capitalism, only that Sombart puts the Jews at the core of the development. At the time of its publication the work was seen as philosemitic but several contemporary Jewish scholars describe it as anti-Semitic. During the Weimar Republic, Sombart moved towards nationalism, and his relation to Nazism is still debated today. His 1938 book "Vom Menschen" was clearly anti-Nazi, and was subsequently hindered in publication and distribution in the Third Reich. Die Juden und das Wirtschaftsleben is still controversial today, however, in recent years German sociologists have shown renewed interest in Sombart's work. Text in German. Heavy age wear and some staining on binding. Sticker with handwritten number 194 on front board. Three-inch split along cloth on back board. Top corner from page 25-36 creased. Back board and spine almost separated from book block. Sporadic foxing to first and last few pages. Leaves in very good condition, otherwise poor. Good reading copy. As is. Seller Inventory # 24081
