One Binding above lightly blotchy (spine), otherwise in very good condition. The Kiev Psalter. Summary. Description of the Manuscript: The Kiev Psalter of 1397 is kept at the Leningrad Public Library in the manuscript collection of what was formerly the Society of Amateurs of Ancient Texts (OJIIII, F 6.). It is a parchment manuscript consisting of 229 leaves, measuring 30 x 24,5 cm. Folio 1 verso depicts King David, folios 2 to 205 contain the Psalms, and folios 205 to 227 - the Odes. Folio 227 verso is blank, while copied out on folios 228-229 veso, in a hand of the first third of the fifteenth century, are brief liturgical texts and prayers. The basic text is written in a liturgical uncial and the manuscript is embellished with initials and elegant marginal illustrations. - The fourteenth-century binding has not survived. The present binding, made early in the nineteenth century, consists of panels covered with green velvet. The parchment leaves are cropped considerably. Folios 145 and 154-156 are of paper, inserted in the seventeenth century to replace the lost original parchment leaves. Though a few miniatures have been damaged by ink, the Psalter, on the whole, is well-preserved. The quality of the writing and artistic excellence make it one of best extant Russian manuscripts.; - In mint condition.
