1595 Italian Renaissance Letters Battista Guarini Venice Florence Vellum ITALY Battista Guarini was a 16th-century Italian poet who was best-known for his tragedy Il Pastor Fido , a story of the marriage of Duke of Savoy and Catharine of Austria. He provided libretti for Renaissance opera composers and texts for madrigals, but he also wrote numerous letters letters that would become popular for their beautiful language. Most of these letters were written to nobles and high-class figures in Venice and Florence.
