Title page + blank + xx + 263 pages. Full leather binding, good, aged, edge/corner wear. Contents fair / good, many good clean pages, many with ageing, water staining, but all readable, rear end pages some edge /corner loss not affecting any text, one owner name rear end page. A fascinating look at the Constantinople court mostly re Europe and the French Court during the last half of the 17th century from a spy, Mahmut the Arabian, now know as Giovanni Paolo Marana 1642-1693. His observations range from those on political figures, advice about state policy, and major interventions in controversies about religious doctrine and their consequences. Originally in Arabic, then translated into Italian, from thence into English. This volume has letters dated between 1645- 1649. This is volume 3 only, 26th ed dated MDCCLXX ( published 1770).
