This solid exlib hardcover of the much sought: Illustrated Classics Edition in black cloth with full size pasted-on color plate on frt board shows surface wear/ color loss over cowboy and galloping horse on cover image. Spine title no longer legible but call library call tag and author's name in white can be seen on backstrip. Board tips are bumped and rubbed with boards showing. Black cloth has some marks and soil. Color Illustrated endpapers show a cowboy with lariat ready in his right hand galloping on a red chestnut horse chasing a texas longhorn steer across the sagebrush plains. Library book plate on frt pastedown, rear inner hinge paper reinforced with cello tape, pocket and all pages present, Perforated library name punched into title page lower fore-edge affecting no text. This is a reprint of the first issue of this Will James book with colored illustrations and just the opposite from the Smoky Classic, the Lone Cowboy Classic is better than the first edition because it has 35 more examples of the wonderful Will James art than the original 1930's book, and yet includes, word for word and page for page, the entire text of the original ( taken from 'The Will James Books, Don Frasier' 1998). Another comment by the aforementioned critic is that it is surely the most beautiful of all the Will James books that Scribner's ever produced, and they produced it for many decades. There are no free blank endpapers in any of the Illustrated Classics. There are 98 b&w drawings and eight full color pictures in this volume. These include all but two of the b&w drawings that are in the 1930 first edition, plus 29 that are NOT in the first edition! 434 pp text is tight and bright occasional finger soil in margins. That is 431 pages of text plus 3 more with a poem on the last page. This is a bio/novel or a fiction/ography of the author's life story, it contains some fact, some fiction and is fabulously entertaining!. Seller Inventory # MK46608
