Hardback. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. 1928. First edition. vii, 164pp. and a frontispiece portrait of Earl Haig. Captain Sir George Compton Archibald Arthur (1860-1946) was a British soldier and writer who fought in the First World War, and was Personal Private Secretary to the Secretary of State, between 1914 and 1916. He writes in his preface to this brief biography of Field-Marshal Earl Haig that it "simply represents an effort to sketch in rough outline the life of a soldier wholly dedicated to the service of the Crown and country." The book is bound in the original black cloth covered boards with red titling on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear and light soiling to the boards. The spine ends are bumped with wear to the cloth and a small bit of damage to the cloth on the front corners of the spine. The contents are tight and clean with browning to the free endpapers. This copy was in the library of Dawyck Haig, Earl Haig's son, and has his initial written in pencil together with his signature 'Haig' in blue ink on the front free endpaper. Association copy.
